Keep moving in wide circles, leave an escape lane, and step out of ground markers before they fill. Kill healers and shield-casters first, switch to the move that matches the current enemy types, and put coins into one partner rather than spreading permanent upgrades across the roster. A run usually fails because the horde closes a pocket, not because the active move is too weak.

Movement and positioning
Move in wide circles so the horde follows a line behind you. A tight circle lets enemies close from several directions at once. Change direction after a gap opens, not when you are already touching the pack.
Ground circles and lines are warnings. Step out of the shape before it fills. The same rule applies to boss attacks and legendary arena hazards. If you cannot see the floor under the effect, move to the edge of the screen rather than guessing.
Keep one route back toward open ground. A chest, a rift or a coin trail is not worth entering a pocket that has only one exit. The first three minutes are mainly about building a safe loop and collecting enough experience to make the next level-up useful.
What to kill first
Healers and shield-casters multiply the rest of the wave. Kill them before the ordinary chasers if the active move can reach them. Summoners and exploders are the next priority because they add bodies or force a sudden move.
A boss is a separate threat from the horde. Do not fight it inside a closed ring of enemies. Pull it toward open space, watch the ground warnings, and keep the active move on the target rather than switching for a low-value stat card.
Advice by run stage
| Stage | What usually goes wrong | What to change |
|---|---|---|
| First 3 minutes | Standing still while the first horde gathers; taking random stat cards | Keep a wide loop, take one reliable attack and one coverage or area move, and save a defensive option for the first boss. |
| 3–10 minutes | Chasing pickups through a closing pocket; ignoring healers | Clear support enemies first, use the move that matches the wave, and rotate around the map instead of crossing the middle. |
| 10–20 minutes | Build has no single-target answer; too many low-level moves | Concentrate upgrades on the move that kills bosses, keep one area move for the horde, and stop adding filler attacks. |
| 20–30 minutes | Rifts and bosses overlap; the escape lane disappears | Take rifts only with a clear route back, save a defensive item, and stop opening new fights when the screen is already crowded. |
| Co-op | Everyone stacks on the same lane; a fallen player is left behind | Split coverage, share experience, and stand next to a fallen teammate to revive them instead of kiting away. |
Type and weather switching
Switch to the move that is super effective against the enemies in front of you. The game uses ×1.6 for super effective, ×0.6 for resisted and ×0.3 for an immunity that has been softened into resistance. Two types multiply, capped at ×2.4. The full type chart shows every row and column.
Rain boosts Water and weakens Fire; harsh sun does the reverse. Sandstorm favors Rock, Ground and Steel; snow favors Ice and slows other types; fog favors Ghost, Fairy and Psychic. Do not rebuild the whole run around a 55–75 second weather state, but do use it when the current wave matches the boost. The weather guide has the exact values and timing.
Coins and upgrades
Permanent upgrades are per Pokémon. Spending 1,000 coins on a partner you are testing and 1,000 on another leaves both weaker than one focused partner. Pick a main, buy the upgrades that support its role, and treat the rest of the roster as collection and co-op options.
Vitality, Strength, Stride and Reflexes are straightforward early purchases. Repertoire changes the start of every run by giving you two moves, while Starting move lets you choose the first attack. The permanent upgrades guide lists every level and cost.
Rifts, bosses and items
Regular bosses appear at 3:00, 6:00, 9:00, 12:00 and 15:00. They have telegraphed attacks and enrage below half health. Rift legendaries are a separate system: the portal stays open for 45 seconds and the arena fight can last up to 120 seconds. A win gives a bond, coins, three normal tickets and a 1/2 chance of a ×10 ticket. A loss returns the group to the map without a prize, but the run continues.
Held items last for the run and you can carry only one. Choice Band gives +40% damage but locks the active move; Life Orb gives +30% damage at an HP cost; Focus Sash leaves you at 1 HP once every 60 seconds. Pick the item that covers the mistake you are actually making. The held items guide compares all 11.
If you are still learning the controls, read the first-run guide before optimizing a build. If the run is failing at the technical level, the troubleshooting guide separates loading, performance and connection symptoms.
Quick answers
What is the most common reason a run ends early?
Getting boxed in by the horde. Wide circles, an open escape lane and early removal of healers and shielders prevent more deaths than a small damage increase.
Should I take every rift that opens?
No. A rift is optional and sends the group to a separate arena. Take it when you have a defensive option and enough time; a loss returns everyone to the map without the reward.
Are permanent upgrades shared between Pokémon?
No. Upgrades are bought per Pokémon and apply only while playing that partner. Concentrate coins on the partner you are actually using.
Do bosses always drop a ×10 ticket?
No. A regular boss has a 1/3 chance of a ×10 ticket. A rift legendary has a 1/2 chance. Both also drop other rewards.
