A legendary rift is an optional portal that opens on the map. Walk into it to fight a legendary in a separate type arena. The portal stays open for 45 seconds; the arena fight lasts up to 120 seconds. A win grants a bond, coins, three normal tickets and a 1/2 chance of a ×10 ticket. A loss returns the group to the map without a prize, but the run continues. No rifts open in the last two minutes before Arceus.

What a rift is
A rift is a purple portal that appears near a player. It is not a normal wave event and it does not replace a boss. Walking into it takes the player or the whole co-op group to a closed arena in the Distortion World to fight one legendary Pokémon.
The encounter is optional. The run continues on the map while the portal is open, and skipping it costs nothing. Entering commits the group to a separate fight with its own timer.
Spawn timing and portal duration
Rift checks begin at 75 seconds and run every 30 seconds. The base chance is 20%. After a miss, the next check is more likely: 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, then 100%. That guarantees at most 2.5 minutes without a rift while the run is eligible.
The portal stays open for 45 seconds. No rifts open from 28:00, two minutes before the Arceus event. A rift cannot open while another arena is active or during the Judgment. If a rift is due at 30:00 but you are already in a rift or choosing a card, the event waits until that state ends.
The legendary pool favors legendaries you have not defeated: an un-beaten legendary has four times the weight of one already in your save. A dual-type legendary picks one of its types at random for the arena.
Inside the arena
The arena is a closed type-themed space with its own terrain. Lava burns, ice is slippery, water slows and other terrain can change movement. The legendary has a boss move set, not the partner move set. The fight lasts up to 120 seconds; if the group falls or the timer expires, the attempt is lost.
The map’s enemies are stored while the arena is active, and no new map enemies spawn. When the group returns, the map continues from the saved state. This makes a rift a pause from the horde, not a reset.
Rewards and loss
| Outcome | What happens |
|---|---|
| Win | Each player gains a bond. The legendary drops coins, three normal tickets and a 1/2 chance of a ×10 ticket. |
| Loss | The group returns to the map without a bond or prize, with some health. The run continues. |
| Timeout | Treated as a loss; the group returns without the reward. |
| Skip | The portal expires after 45 seconds; nothing is lost. |
A community claim that every rift gives a guaranteed ×10 ticket is wrong for the current build. The official code uses a 1/2 chance for the ×10, plus the three normal tickets. A regular boss has a separate 1/3 chance. The gacha guide lists all ticket sources.
The bond is the unique reward. It fuses two moves into one slot, up to four fused moves. The bond guide explains the slot plan.
The 18 type arenas
| Type | Arena | Type | Arena |
|---|---|---|---|
| Normal | Eternal Meadow | Ground | Red Desert |
| Fire | Igneous Volcano | Flying | Sky Peak |
| Water | Sea Grotto | Psychic | Mind Temple |
| Grass | Emerald Jungle | Bug | Hive Forest |
| Electric | Volt Plant | Rock | Ancient Quarry |
| Ice | Eternal Glacier | Ghost | Gloomy Graveyard |
| Fighting | Ancient Dojo | Dragon | Dragon Sanctuary |
| Poison | Toxic Swamp | Dark | Dark Alley |
| Steel | Steel Fortress | Fairy | Enchanted Forest |
There are 87 legendaries across these arenas. A dual-type legendary chooses one of its types at random, so the same legendary can appear in either arena. The arena type is not a promise about the legendary’s full move coverage.
Co-op rules
The host decides rift entry and broadcasts the arena configuration. A rift takes the whole group; one player cannot enter alone and leave the others on the map. Experience and level are shared, and standing next to a fallen teammate revives them. The multiplayer guide covers rooms and connection checks.
If a player is disconnected, the group can still finish the arena. The host’s state is authoritative. Rejoin after the arena if the run continues.
